Gov. Gary Locke Congratulates Boeing on First Dreamliner Order

Gov. Gary Locke today congratulated The Boeing Co. on the announcement of its company-record launch order of 50 7E7 Dreamliner jets by All Nippon Airways.

“The 7E7 Dreamliner is off to a tremendous start and we are proud to be the home of another successful Boeing commercial airplane program,” Locke said. “We worked hard to bring the 7E7 final assembly to Washington. It’s a project that is critical to our long-term competitiveness and economic vitality, as well as to the future of our aerospace industry. This order is great news for Boeing and great news for the people of Washington.”

Martha Choe, state 7E7 Program Coordinator, said, “It is very exciting to see this first order as we continue to work with Boeing to implement their newest and most innovative product to date.”

Washington’s successful bid for the Boeing 7E7 Dreamliner means that the people of Washington will benefit from the safeguarding of 200,000 direct and indirect jobs created by Boeing, its suppliers, and the many businesses that provide products and services to Boeing employees. It is estimated that the project will generate more than $540 million in annual tax revenue.

Production of the Dreamliner will begin in 2006. The first flight is expected in 2007 with certification, delivery and entry into service in 2008.
