Gov. Gary Locke Commends Washington State's CIO as One of the Nation's Top 25 Technology Influencers

Gov. Gary Locke today commended Department of Information Services (DIS) Director and State Chief Information Officer Stuart McKee on his selection as one of the nation's ‘Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers’ by Government Technology magazine.

In the March 2004 edition, McKee joins a list of leaders who have been recognized for their ability to cost-effectively improve services to citizens while facing budgetary challenges.

“I’m pleased that Stuart McKee has been acknowledged as an influential player in this field. For the last five years Washington state has made a concerted effort to use technology to make government more efficient and user-friendly for our citizens,” Locke said. “We remain committed to finding new ways in which technology can better serve the people of Washington.”

Under McKee’s leadership, Washington has continued to be recognized as a technology leader. The Center for Digital Government recently honored Washington with the Sustained Leadership Award, a national award recognizing the state that consistently made the greatest contribution to digital government over the past five years. In 2003, DIS helped to establish national best practices for cyber security through the TOPOFF2 cyber exercise.

“Washington’s success as a technology leader would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Governor Locke. He has been a tireless champion of technology, recognizing its strategic importance as a tool of innovation while promoting the value of sustained investment in digital government,” McKee said. “It’s a privilege to be included with some of the best technology leaders in the country, who continually push forward with innovative work.”

Locke appointed McKee as director of DIS and state CIO in April 2002.
