Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to state boards and commissions:

Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission

Thuy Vu of Olympia has been reappointed to a term ending June 30, 2007. The Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission examines and defines issues pertaining to the rights and needs of Asian Americans and advises the governor and state agencies on policies, plans and needs.

Capitol Furnishings Preservation Committee

Steve Lindstrom of Olympia has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 1, 2006. Lindstrom is a self-employed business development consultant and lobbyist. The Capitol Furnishings Preservation Committee promotes and encourages the recovery and preservation of the original and historic furnishings of the state capitol, prevents future loss of historic furnishings, and reviews and advises future remodeling and restoration projects as they pertain to historic furnishings.

Commission on Pesticide Registration

Ben Barstow of Palouse has been reappointed to a term ending Sept. 14, 2006. The Commission on Pesticide Registration provides guidance to Washington State University Food Safety and Environmental Quality Lab in the area of pesticide registration for minor crops and minor uses and in regard to the availability to pesticides for emergency use.

K-20 Educational Network Board

David Danner of Olympia has been appointed to a term serving at the pleasure of the governor. Danner is a senior policy advisor to Locke. The K-20 Educational Network Board ensures that the K-20 educational telecommunications network is operated in a way that serves the broad public interest.

State Board of Community and Technical Colleges

Carolyn Purnell of Seattle has been reappointed to a term ending April 3, 2008. The State Board of Community and Technical Colleges is the governing board for the state’s community and technical college system. It prepares and submits to the governor the budget for community and technical colleges system; disburses funds to the 30 colleges; and establishes standards for staffing, financial procedures, curriculum, degree and admissions policies.

State Employee Combined Fund Drive

Robert Sandoval of Richland has been appointed to a term ending Jan. 1, 2007. Sandoval is a project manager with the Department of Community Trade & Economic Development. The State Employee Combined Fund Drive Board determines which agencies engaged in charitable and public health, welfare and service purposes shall participate in an annual combined effort to secure funds from state employees through payroll deduction or other payment methods; establishes the policies necessary to conduct the annual campaign; and establishes the polices necessary to collect and distribute the funds.

Washington Commission on National and Community Service

Grace Chien of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending Feb. 15, 2007. Chien is executive director of the Girl Scouts – Totem Council. The Washington Commission on National and Community Service implements federal National and Community Trust Act of 1993, which created AmeriCorps.
