Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to boards and commissions:

Emergency Medical Services/Trauma Care Steering Committee

Mary Flick of Port Townsend has been appointed to a term ending Aug. 15, 2006. Flick is the clinical education coordinator for emergency services at Harrison Memorial Hospital. The Emergency Medical Services/Trauma Care Steering Committee reviews the requirements for pre-hospital emergency and ambulance services throughout the state, the proposed administrative rules relating to emergency medical services and regional emergency management plans and rules regarding poison information centers.

Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund Committee

Scott D. Keller of Richland has been appointed to a term ending June 28, 2006. Keller is executive director for the Port of Benton. The Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund Committee accepts loans and grants from federal and state agencies for the purpose of funding Hanford- area revolving loan funds, infrastructure projects, or economic development projects; and also recommends a spending strategy for those funds.

Housing Finance Commission

Raymond C. Reickers of Spokane has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2007. Reickers is assistant director of the Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs. The Housing Finance Commission issues revenue bonds and participates in federal, state and local housing programs to make additional funds available to help provide low to moderate income housing throughout the state, without the use of public funds or lending the state’s credit.

Legal Foundation of Washington

Nancy Pacharzina of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending Dec. 31, 2005. Pacharzina is an attorney with Hagens Berman, LLP. The Legal Foundation of Washington acts as trustee for funds received from interest on lawyers’ trust accounts, as directed by the state Supreme Court. These funds are used for law-related charitable and educational purposes.

Professional Educator Standards Board

Sharon Okamoto of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending May 31, 2004. Okamoto is principal of Seattle Urban Academy, CRISTA Ministries. The Professional Educator Standards Board develops a basic skills test for persons entering teacher preparation programs and out-of-state teachers seeking initial or residency certification.

State Advisory Council on Homelessness

J.T. Wilcox of Roy and Robert “Woody” Woodson of Rockport have been appointed to terms ending Jan. 4, 2008. Wilcox is owner of Wilcox Dairy Farms. Woodson is business manager for Laborers Union Local #901. The State Advisory Council on Homelessness makes annual policy recommendations to the governor and the Affordable Housing Board on ways to enhance the state’s ability to respond to the needs of people who are homeless, who are at risk of being homeless, or who have been homeless.

State Board of Health

Mel Tonasket of Omak has been appointed to a term ending July 1, 2007. Tonasket is a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes Tribal Council. The State Board of Health is the primary entity for state health policy development and is required to produce a biennial report delineating the state’s health priorities.

State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities & Their Families

Bonnie Sandahl of Snohomish has been named chair of the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities & Their Families with a term ending Jan. 6, 2007. The State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities & Their Families advises and assists the Department of Social and Health Services and participating state agencies coordinate, develop and implement policies dealing with early-intervention services.

Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education

Dr. James Sulton, Jr. of Olympia has been appointed to a term ending June 9, 2006. Sulton is executive director of the Higher Education Coordinating Board. The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education places students in professional schools of compact states. The commission also provides tuition assistance for out-of-state study.
