Gov. Gary Locke Announces Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the following appointments to boards and commissions:

Academic Achievement and Accountability (A+) Commission

Hummingbird St. Peter of Spokane has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2007. St. Peter recently served as a program manager in the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The A+ Commission provides oversight of the state's K-12 educational accountability system.

Board of Accountancy

Mien “Julia” Tai of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending June 9, 2006. Tai is a senior auditor for the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. The Board of Accountancy regulates Certified Public Accountants, CPA firms, and the practice of public accountancy in Washington state.

Hispanic Affairs Commission

Rebecca Villareal of Bainbridge Island has been appointed to a term ending Aug. 1, 2006. Villareal is a vice president and business assistance officer for Community Capital Development in Seattle. The Hispanic Affairs Commission advises state agencies on developing and implementing policies, plans and programs focusing on the needs of the Hispanic community.

Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation

Yvonne Yokota of Sequim has been appointed to a term ending Dec. 31, 2005. Yokota is the owner and operator of Dungeness Woodworks. The Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation fosters the protection and enhancement of Washington's natural and outdoor recreation resources.


Marine Employees’ Commission

John Swanson of Bellevue has been appointed to a term ending June 15, 2008. He will serve as chair of the commission. Swanson is the owner and operator of Swanson Consulting Services. The Marine Employees Commission provides specialized attention to resolve the unique and complex labor relations questions that arise in the operation of the Washington State Ferry system.

Pacific Hospital Preservation and Development Authority Governing Council

Linda Ruiz of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending Dec. 31, 2006. Ruiz is the Western consortium administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Pacific Hospital Preservation and Development Authority Governing Council manages all Authority affairs and governance of Pacific Medical Center.

Northwest Power and Conservation Council

Tom Karier of Spokane has been reappointed to a term ending Jan. 15, 2007. Karier is paid an annual salary of $77,446. The Northwest Power and Conservation Council develops and maintains a regional power plan and a fish and wildlife program to balance the Northwest's environment and energy needs.

Spokane Intercollegiate Research Technology Institute Board of Directors

Greg Bever of Spokane has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2004. Bever is the publisher of the Journal of Business. The mission of the Spokane Intercollegiate Research Technology Institute is to accelerate the development and growth of technology companies in Eastern Washington.

Washington Technology Center Board of Directors

Katherine James Schuitemaker of Seattle has been appointed to a term ending June 11, 2006. Schuitemaker is the CEO of The Resonance Group. The Washington Technology Center fosters economic growth through technology and innovation by promoting ideas, connecting resources and facilitating job growth.
