Gov. Gary Locke Announces Commission Appointments

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the appointments of Ben Cabildo of Spokane to the Human Rights Commission and Faviola Barbosa of East Wenatchee, Uriel Iñiguez of Olympia and Karla Padilla-Reyna of Zillah to the Commission on Hispanic Affairs.

Cabildo will serve on the Human Rights Commission for a term ending June 17, 2007. He is executive director of the AHANA Business and Professional Association, a grassroots organization of African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American businesses and professionals in the Inland Northwest.

Cabildo has more than 30 years’ experience as a community activist and in building social justice organizations. He was honored with a Community Service Award last Saturday during the NAACP Freedom Banquet in Spokane. Cabildo received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and Lyceum University.

The Human Rights Commission works to prevent and eliminate discrimination by investigating human rights complaints and providing education and training opportunities throughout the state.

Barbosa will serve on the Commission on Hispanic Affairs (CHA) for a term ending Aug. 1, 2006. She is the coordinator of multicultural affairs and student events at Wenatchee Valley College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Washington State University.

Iñiguez will serve on the CHA for a term ending Aug. 1, 2004. He is a correctional manager with the Washington Department of Corrections, Office of Administrative Services. He has a master’s degree from City University and a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University.

Padilla-Reyna will serve on the CHA for a term ending Aug. 1, 2006. She is a broker/agent for New York Life and was previously a program manager for Northwest Community Action in Toppenish. She holds a master’s degree from Portland State University and a bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University.

The CHA advises state agencies on developing and implementing policies, plans and programs focusing on the needs of the Hispanic community.
