Gov. Gary Locke’s Statement on the Arrival of the Washington State 81st Armor Brigade at Armories Statewide

OLYMPIA – Nov. 15, 2003 – Gov. Gary Locke issued the following statement on the Washington Army National Guard’s 81st Armor Brigade, who today reported for active duty at 22 armories statewide:

“We are humbled by the sacrifice being made by our brave servicemen and women of the National Guard.

“It is our hope that they will carry out their duty swiftly, safely and return home to their loved ones as soon as possible.”

The Washington Army National Guard’s 81st Brigade comprises more than 4,000 soldiers, of which more than 3,200 are based in Washington state. The National Guard Brigade was mobilized on Oct. 30.
