Gov. Gary Locke Announces Board and Commission Appointments

Gov. Gary Locke today announced the appointments of Michael Brasfield of Port Ludlow to the Sentencing Guidelines Commission and Calhoun Dickinson of Seattle to the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals.

Brasfield will serve on the Sentencing Guidelines Commission for a term ending Aug. 2, 2006. He is currently the elected sheriff of Jefferson County. Brasfield previously served as chief of police of Fort Lauderdale and assistant chief of the Seattle Police Department, and he received his bachelor’s degree in society and justice from the University of Washington. The Sentencing Commission evaluates and monitors adult and juvenile sentencing policies and practices and recommends modifications to the governor and the Legislature.

Dickinson will serve on the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals (BIIA) for a term ending June 17, 2005. Dickinson practiced law at Perkins Coie prior to his retirement, where his emphasis was in workers’ compensation issues. He received his bachelor’s and law degrees from Harvard University. The BIIA hears and makes final decisions on issues regarding worker’s compensation, appeals from safety citations under the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act and crime victim compensation appeals.
