Gov. Gary Locke’s Statement On Sex Predator to Remain in California

Gov. Gary Locke today issued a statement on California’s apparent successful effort to find housing for convicted sex predator Brian DeVries.

“I am extremely happy that California has identified a housing location for Mr. DeVries.

“I vehemently opposed the initial ruling to have Mr. DeVries released in Washington state. Such an action would have made monitoring and enforcement of Mr. DeVries’ outpatient requirements a virtual impossibility.

“I would like to commend the efforts of Gov. Gray Davis and other California state officials who delivered on a promise to do everything in their power to keep this violent criminal out of our state.”
