Gov. Gary Locke Praises Prescription Drug Compromise, Urges Swift Passage

OLYMPIA – June 3, 2003 – Gov. Gary Locke today issued the following statement on the prescription drug plan compromise reached by Rep. Eileen Cody, D-Seattle, and Sen. Alex Deccio, R-Yakima:

“I commend Rep. Eileen Cody and Sen. Alex Deccio for their hard work and dedication to finally reaching agreement on this important prescription drug proposal.

“It’s imperative that the Legislature take action on this proposal because thousands of people in Washington need assistance to reduce the high cost of prescription drugs.

“We’ve known from the beginning it would take bipartisan support to get prescription drug relief, and we’re very close to helping citizens finally get the benefits they need and deserve. I urge the Legislature to pass this important legislation swiftly.”

The governor has worked with both parties since the beginning of the session on prescription drug relief, and encouraged both sides to reach common ground.
