Gov. Gary Locke Statement on the Pentagon’s Boeing Tanker Lease

Gov. Gary Locke today issued the following statement on the Defense Department’s agreement to lease 100 airborne refueling tankers that will be built on Boeing 767 commercial airframes in Everett:

“I applaud our congressional delegation for its effort on behalf of Boeing and Washington state and join in celebrating this great win. I would especially like to thank Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Congressman Norm Dicks for their hard work.

“This project will mean more business for Boeing, more jobs for our state and strengthens our case for winning the 7E7 final assembly here in Washington.

“It is my hope that this is just the beginning of further successes for Boeing and Washington. My office will continue to work with leaders in the public and private sector to ensure a coordinated effort to win the 7E7 final assembly. ”
