Gov. Gary Locke’s Statement on Senate Republican Budget

Gov. Gary Locke today issued the following statement on the unveiling of the Senate Republican budget:

“I compliment the Senate Republicans for unveiling their proposed state operating budget and adopting our Priorities of Government approach. In this difficult budget year, we must prioritize our spending and ask what our citizens need most and what we can afford.

“Some of my priorities, especially in the areas of education and children, differ from the Senate’s proposal. I’m troubled by deep cuts in health programs for children.

“I now eagerly await the House’s version of the budget. I look forward to working with the Senate and House to agree on a budget that will improve education, create jobs and ensure the health and safety of our citizens.”
