Gov. Gary Locke Announces Online Source for Emergency Preparedness

Gov. Gary Locke announced today the creation of a new comprehensive series of Emergency Resource Web pages to be available on the state’s Internet portal, Access Washington (www.access.wa.gov). This resource enables Washington citizens to easily find information on emergency preparedness efforts.

“My first priority is to ensure the health and safety of Washington citizens, and emergency preparedness is the most important action we can take,” Locke said. “I encourage everyone to visit Access Washington and, together with your family, take the time to learn how to prepare for different types of emergencies.”

The Emergency Resources pages are available on the Access Washington home page through the “Be Prepared” and “Emergency Resources” links. These pages contain a wide-range of federal, state and local emergency preparedness information including items on homeland security threats, earthquake, flood, drought, wildfire information and more.

“The emergency information available on Access Washington contains some of the best preparedness resource sites and links on the Internet,” Locke said.

The Washington State Department of Information Services collaborated with a number of state agencies to present key emergency preparedness Web pages. Among the agencies providing emergency preparedness information include the Washington State Department of Health, Washington State Department of Transportation, Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Washington State Department of Emergency Management.

The state’s Department of Information Services also worked with local, state and federal agencies to compile information linked in the Emergency Resource pages.
