Gov. Gary Locke’s Statement on the Orange Threat Condition

Gov. Gary Locke today issued the following statement on the heightening of the national threat condition to orange:

“This morning, the Bush Administration raised the national threat condition to orange, or ‘high risk.’

“At this time, there is no specific threat in our state. The orange threat condition is for the country as a whole, and our state is taking appropriate steps in accordance with this alert.

“These steps call for increasing security measures and providing additional staffing where necessary. There will be heightened monitoring of facilities and locations that may possibly be at risk.

“I want to assure the people of our state that we are taking the necessary precautions for this threat condition, and we are continuing our close coordination with federal and local officials.”
