Locke appoints Kallas to King County Superior Court

SEATTLE - Gov. Gary Locke today appointed state Appellate Court Commissioner Paris K. Kallas to the King County Superior Court bench.

Kallas will replace Superior Court Judge Larry Jordan, who retires on July 1.

"Paris Kallas is an experienced attorney and jurist who commands wide respect in the King County legal community," Locke said. "Her reputation as a pro-tem judge is overwhelming. She will make an excellent trial judge in King County Superior Court."

Kallas has served as a commissioner in Division One of the state Court of Appeals since 1996. She also served as staff attorney for the court, operated her own practice, worked in two law firms and served as senior staff attorney for the Washington Appellate Defender Association.

She has been a bar examiner for the Washington State Bar Committee of Law Examiners since 1999. She also has written on complex and appellate jurisdiction issues in the federal court for Moore's Federal Practice.

Kallas graduated from the University of Puget Sound (now Seattle University) Law School in 1981 and received a bachelor of arts degree from St. Olaf College in 1978.

She will earn $111,549 annually.
