Gov. Locke’s statement on state House transportation plans

“I am encouraged by the state House of Representatives Democratic caucus transportation plan. I commend Speaker Frank Chopp, Representative Ruth Fisher and other members of the Democratic caucus who put this plan together.

“I support enhancing accountability to help ensure that transportation projects are brought in on time and on budget.

“I am also encouraged about the transportation plan put forward by state Representative Maryann Mitchell. This shows that Democrats and Republicans are not that far apart in their transportation proposals.

“We must work together for one Washington. With quick action in the state House of Representatives it appears we are on our way to fixing Washington’s transportation crisis.

“I still prefer having a transportation package voted on here in Olympia. Getting a transportation improvement package as soon as possible is critical in order to make Washington’s roads safer, reduce traffic congestion and put more Washingtonians to work sooner rather than later."
