Gov. Locke’s statement on aviation security bill

“I am pleased that Congress approved a reasonable compromise bill that will tighten airport security. The final bill puts safety first for the flying public by giving the federal government control over airport security.

“It also requires cockpit door fortification, expands use of air marshals on flights, and provides full screening of checked bags for weapons and explosives. Liability protections for the Boeing Company and others affected by the September 11 attacks also were included in the final bill.

“These much-needed improvements will go a long way to restore confidence in air travel. This will benefit not only those of us who fly regularly, but also the economy overall.”
