Locke announces boards and commissions appointments

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments for several boards and commissions.

Higher Education Coordinating Board
The board studies, plans, and coordinates higher education among various institutions and agencies within the state.
  • Gene Colin, of Seattle, has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2005.

  • Roberta Greene, of Spokane, a vice president of sales
    development for Empire Ford, has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2005.

Small Business Improvement Council
The council identifies regulatory, administrative and legislative proposals that will improve the entrepreneurial environment for
small businesses.
  • Cathryn Buchanan-Gimenez, of Olympia, a travel agent, has been appointed to a term ending July 19, 2005.

  • David Smith, of Colville, a computer specialist and network administrator, has been appointed to a term ending July 19, 2003.

  • Daniel Hille, of Ritzville, president of Family Farm Corp. Quad H, Inc., has been appointed to a term ending July 19, 2003.

  • Daniel Caine, of Seattle, has been re-appointed to a term ending July 19, 2004.

Council on Aging
The council advises the governor and Department of Social and
Health Services on policies, programs and services affecting older people.
  • Woody Woodruff, of Camas, Thelma Marchand, have been appointed to a term ending Sep. 15, 2004.

Board of Hearing and Speech
The board recommends standards and licenses hearing instrument dispensers.
  • Dr. Lynne Byrne, of Bremerton, and Rev. Kenneth Pope, of Selah, have been re-appointed to a term ending June 6, 2004.

Sentencing Guidelines Commission
The commission evaluates state sentencing policy for both the adult and juvenile justice system.
  • James Nagle, of Walla Walla, a county prosecuting attorney, has been appointed to a term ending Aug. 2, 2004.

Western State Hospital Advisory Board
The board monitors the operation and activities of Western State
Hospital.
  • Shirley Havenga, of Seattle, has been re-appointed to a term ending Dec. 5, 2005.

School for the Deaf, Board of Trustees
The board serves the educational needs of hearing-impaired students throughout the state.
  • Bruce Romanish, of Vancouver, an associate campus dean, has been appointed to a term ending July 1, 2002.

  • Holly Parker Jensen, of Everett, has been re-appointed to a term ending July 1, 2005.

Veterinary Board of Governors
The board examines candidates for licensing and holds hearings on violations of the regulatory law.
  • Janet Gholson Stevenson, of Spokane, a businesswoman, has been appointed to a term ending Dec. 24, 2004.
