For the second year in a row, the state of Washington has been named the leading state in the nation for using information technology to deliver services to citizens and improve government operations.

 

Digital State Award
The "Digital State" award is from the Progress and Freedom Foundation, in association with the publication Government Technology.

The Department of Ecology and the State Treasurer developed the state's first cash receipt journal allowing information to automatically be transferred without double-entry of all data. This new process, along with computer upgrades, is saving $700 per month in hardware maintenance and 186 staff hours per month.
Cash receipt data is transferred electronically twice daily.
