TO: ALL DEPARTMENTS, BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

FROM: GOVERNOR ARTHUR B. LANGLIE

SUBJECT: EXTENSION OF AUTOMOBILE POOL

I am calling your attention to Chapter 225, Laws of 1943, the act formally legalizing the Automobile Pool and providing for its extension to all passenger automobiles operated by Code Departments, Boards and Commissions under the control of this office.

It to contemplated in applying this extension that the pool will an soon as possible embrace the ownership of all passenger automobiles now owned by the divisions of government under this office. The title to these machines will be transferred to the Highway Department's Equipment Fund on a basis now being worked out by the Highway Department under which the department relinquishing title in given due credit. The Director of Highways has issued to you a memorandum requesting certain information and it is requested that you supply him this information as soon as possible and not later than May 8th, I am asking all divisions to give the Director of Highways full and complete cooperation in working out the details and making the enlarged Automobile Pool a success. The success of the Automobile Pool will not only contribute toward improved efficiency in state government but also in the conservation of mechanical equipment and tires, which is so vital to our Nation at this time.

We believe that this pooling of equipment can be accomplished without inconveniencing or upsetting the vital functions of your department which are dependent upon transportation. You will note that it is planned to embrace all passenger equipment end exceptions can only be made by applying in writing to this office.
