10/15/2018 Peter The maiden name of Margaret's mother was either Stephens or Stevens, but definitely not Evans. The "Evans" might have been picked up, somehow, from her father, for his first name was EVAN -- NOT Enoch! The 1850 census shows 17-year-old Evan Noyes living in Mississippi County, MO, and 15-year-old Diantha Stephens in Adams County, IL. Then the Illinois Statewide Marriage index shows that Evan Noyes married Diantha Stevens in Adams County on 3 April 1854. In the 1880 census Evan and Diantha Noyes are still in Adams County, IL, along with their 17-year-old daughter Margaret (and, it should be noted, one of Margaret's brothers is named Enoch!). Margaret married twice: first to J.D. Marshall at Glenwood, Mills County, Iowa, 8 Dec 1888, and later to Archelaus Stanley Martin at Sidney, Fremont County, Iowa, on 24 July 1898. She and her second husband soon separated (and were living in different states by the time of the 1900 census), and he passed away in 1902, but Margaret continued to use the name Martin for the rest of her life. Her only child was Winona Inez Marshall, born in November 1889.
