Capital Overview
The Eastern Washington State Historical Society is a private non-profit
state agency which acts as a trustee of the state of Washington
to maintain and preserve those articles and properties which illustrate
the history of the state. The Society actively collaborates with
the people of the Inland Northwest in life-long learning about
regional history, visual arts, and Native American and other cultures,
especially those specific to the region.
Located in Spokane, the Society owns and maintains the Cheney
Cowles Museum which houses the Society's history, research library
and special collections, art, and Native American programs: the
Campbell House, a restored mansion listed on the National Register;
and over five acres of improved grounds. These facilities provide
the stage to present regional history, art, and Native American
programming.
Capital Plan Highlights
- Funds are provided to complete the design for a major addition
to the Cheney Cowles Museum in order to house the complete collections
now owned by the Society.
- The 1997-99 capital plan includes funds to preserve the existing
assets at the Museum site.
