Capital Overview
The Joint Center for Higher Education was established by statute
in 1991 to coordinate the higher education programs offered in
the Spokane area by Washington State University and by Eastern
Washington University outside of its Cheney campus. In addition,
the Joint Center provides coordination for programs offered among
the state universities, community and technical colleges, and
private higher education institutions in the area.
Other activities of the Joint Center include fiscal authority
related to the land and facilities known as the Riverpoint Higher
Education Park in Spokane, administration of the Spokane Intercollegiate
Research and Technology Institute (SIRTI), and development of
a master plan for the higher education park.
Capital Plan Highlights
- Funds are provided for minor works projects within the existing
buildings.
- $21 million is provided in the 1997 supplemental operating
budget from the state general fund to construct the Health Sciences
Building at the Joint Center's Riverpoint Campus in downtown Spokane.
The building will house the health science-related educational
programs of Eastern Washington University and Washington State
University.
