Owned Facilities by County - 1997-99
|
Capital Overview
Eastern Washington University (EWU) was established in 1882 and
is one of three comprehensive regional universities in the state.
Eastern is dedicated to addressing the higher education needs
of the Inland Northwest through a diverse offering of educational
programs, active involvement in regional issues and concerns,
and outstanding facilities and faculty expertise. Degree programs
are offered at the baccalaureate and master's degree levels through
an academic structure consisting of six colleges.
Eastern Washington University will serve approximately 7,500 students
at its Cheney campus by the end of the 1997-99 Biennium, with
enrollment slated to increase throughout the next ten years.
Roughly 60 buildings comprise the main campus, many of which are
of significant age.
While buildings have been maintained through emergency and small
repair projects, Eastern is now at a point where renovations are
needed in many of the older buildings. A campus master plan has
been completed recently that will provide the framework for prioritizing
decisions about the use and renovation of facilities. Complete
renovation of campus historic structures has begun with the funding
of Sutton Hall in 1995-97 which will continue in the next biennia.
Capital Plan Highlights
- The 1997-99 capital plan provides for the continuation of
the systematic renovation of classroom spaces and upgrading EWU's
telecommunication system to support advanced technology in student
learning.
- Funds are included to undertake preservation of major systems
to various buildings and infrastructure on the campus.
