Project Map

Capital Overview

The Department of Health protects and enhances the health of people in Washington State by identifying significant factors which improve or threaten health, developing policies and activities to address them, and assuring that actions are taken and evaluated.

The Department carries out these activities through both medical care designed to meet the needs of individuals, and population-based education, prevention, and health promotion programs designed to reach large numbers of people.

The Department owns and maintains a Public Health Laboratory constructed in 1985 on the Fircrest Campus in North Seattle. This facility requires continual reinvestment to meet the requirements of changing programs and technology.
