Lowry names Schurke to Board of Industrial
Insurance Appeals
OLYMPIA -- Gov. Mike Lowry has
named Judy Schurke of Olympia to the Board of Industrial Insurance
Appeals.
Schurke, 42, represents business interests on the board. She currently
manages the workers' compensation self-insurance program for The
Boeing Company, responsible for administering claims and benefits
for the company's employees.
"Judy will bring a great deal of workers' compensation experience
to the board," Lowry said. "I look forward to having
her share her understanding and perspectives in these issues."
Schurke has 22 years of experience in workers' compensation claims
and benefits, beginning in 1974 in claims administration with
the Department of Labor and Industries. She held several positions
within the agency, promoting to the self-insurance program compliance
supervisor for the agency.
Schurke is a graduate of the Evergreen State College. She also
has worked with the Association of Washington Business workers'
compensation committee, Washington Self Insurers Association and
the Risk Insurance Managers Society.
The three-member board hears and makes final decisions on industrial
insurance appeals. She replaces Bob McCallister, who retires
from the board Aug. 1, and will fill the remainder of his term
until 1999. She will receive a salary of $70,244.
