Lowry makes appointments to boards and
commissions
OLYMPIA -- Gov. Mike Lowry today announced the following board
and commission appointments:
Pollution Control and Shorelines Hearings Board
Richard Kelley of Seattle has been reappointed to the Pollution Control and Shorelines Hearings Board. Kelley received a bachelor's degree from Harvard University, and master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Washington. He has previously served as chair for both the Washington State Personnel Board and the City of Seattle Civil Service Commission. Kelley served as deputy mayor of Seattle in the late 1970s. He will serve through June 2002.
The Pollution Control Board hears appeals on decisions and orders
of the Department of Ecology and air pollution control boards
or authorities. The Shorelines Hearings Board hears appeals on
the granting, denying or rescinding of a permit on shorelines.
The board has three members, each serving six-year terms.
Western Washington Growth Planning Hearings Board
William Nielsen of La Conner has been reappointed to the Western Washington Growth Planning Hearings Board. A member of the Washington State Bar Association, Nielsen was a legal advisor for the North Sound Regional Support Network, as well as the Northwest Air Pollution Authority. He is a member of the environmental law section and has previously served as a bar examiner for the Washington State Bar Association. Nielsen was in private practice in Mt. Vernon for 15 years before being appointed to the board and has served as chief civil deputy for Skagit County. He will serve through July 2002.
The Western Washington Growth Planning Hearings Board rules on
disputes that arise from county and city growth-planning policies
in all counties west of the Cascades (except for King, Pierce,
Kitsap and Snohomish) and all cities therein. The board has three
members, each serving six-year terms.
