Governor to recognize outstanding state managers

OLYMPIA -- Gov. Mike Lowry today recognized 18 outstanding state managers at the 11th annual Distinguished Management Leadership Awards luncheon at the Executive Mansion.

"Today's state managers face tight restrictions on resources, rising public expectations, unprecedented technological advances, and a changing workforce," the governor said. "But these leaders have found a way to not only improve state government but to inspire others with their commitment to public service."

This year's program recognizes managers from 17 state agencies. Ten of the honorees received the Distinguished Management Leadership Award. Eight honorees received the Governor's Sustaining Leadership Award, recognizing long-standing leadership in state government.

A selection committee composed of agency directors and Governor's Office staff chose the winners for both awards from a statewide field of 53 managers.
