Gov. Locke’s statement on upcoming trip to New York City

"Since the tragic events of September 11, we have watched in awe as the people of New York City have shown the world the greatness of America. From the victims and rescue workers at ground zero to teachers and business people returning to work, New York City is a metropolis of heroes.

“Despite erroneous reports to the contrary, I do plan to move forward with my scheduled trip to New York this week.

“I encourage Washingtonians to keep their travel plans whether for business or pleasure. We must demonstrate confidence and not allow the terrorists to keep us from continuing our way of life.

“I amplify that message by traveling to New York to participate in a national education summit, to meet with representatives from the nation’s leading financial institutions and to ring the bell at the opening of Tuesday’s trading session on the New York Stock Exchange.”
