Locke announces boards and commissions appointments

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments for several boards and commissions.

Olympic College Board of Trustees

The board is the governing body for college.

  • Peter Crane, of Bremerton, is a member of the Kitsap Economic Development Council. He has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2005.


Lake Washington Technical College Board of Trustees

The board is the governing body for the college.

  • Sherada Washington, of Woodinville, is a businessperson and community activist. She has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 30, 2005.


Executive Board of the Washington Public Power Supply (Energy Northwest)

The board represents electrical ratepayers in the state in matters of public power.

  • Amy Solomon, of Seattle, is an independent consultant. She has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2005.


Human Rights Commission

The commission works to eliminate and prevent discrimination in employment and business practices.

  • Rudy Vasquez, of Tacoma, currently works for the Washington Association of Community and Migrant Health Centers and has been named chair of the commission. His term ends June 17, 2002.

  • Dallas Barnes, of Pasco, is an educator at Washington State University. He has been appointed to a term ending June 17, 2006.


Commission on Pesticide Registration

The commission provides guidance to the Washington State University's Food safety and Environmental Quality Lab.

  • Ben Barstow, of Palouse, is a researcher and educator. He has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 14, 2003.


Rehabilitation Council for the Blind

The board advises the director of the Department of Services for the Blind.

  • Ron Hertel, of Tacoma, works for the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. He has been appointed to a term ending Sept. 13, 2004.


Nursing Home Administrators

The board administers licensure or registration for nursing home administrators.

  • Linda Batch, of Seattle, has been reappointed to a term ending May 28, 2006.


Commission on Hispanic Affairs

The commission ensures that state programs are providing the assistance needed by the Hispanic community.

  • Yolanda Flores Niemann, of Richland, is currently working at Washington State University. She has been appointed to serve a term ending Aug. 1, 2002.

  • Christina Guillen-Cook, of University Place, is an educator and activist. She has been appointed to serve a term ending Aug. 1, 2004.

  • Phyllis Gallegos, of Lacey, and Edward Davila, of Burien, have been reappointed to terms that end Aug. 1, 2004.


Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers

The board examines and licenses members of the profession.

  • Eugene Lux, of Seattle, has been reappointed to a term that ends July 1, 2006.


Migratory Waterfowl Art Committee

The committee selects designs for waterfowl stamps and markets artwork from which proceeds are used for state waterfowl projects.

  • Terry Thompson, of Olympia, a consultant, has been appointed to a term ending May 10, 2004.


Eastern State Hospital Advisory Board

The board monitors the operation and activities of the hospital.

  • Edie Rice-Sauer, of Spokane, a program planner, has been appointed to a term ending Dec. 5, 2005.


Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute Board of Directors

The board is responsible for developing and approving the SIRTI institute's general operating procedures and budget.

  • Heidi Stanley, of Spokane, Nancy Isserlis, of Spokane, and Stuart Stiles, of Spokane, have all been reappointed to additional terms that end June 30, 2004.


Judicial Conduct Commission

The commission reviews complaints alleging possible violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct.

  • Marianne Connelly, of Spokane, has been appointed to a term ending June 16, 2002.

  • Sherry Appleton, of Poulsbo, Vivian Caver, of Seattle, Todd Whitrock, of Longview, Judie Fortier, of Tacoma, and Wanda Briggs, of Kennewick, have all been reappointed to additional terms ending June 16, 2005.


Asian-Pacific American Commission

The commission examines and defines issues pertaining to the rights and needs of Asian Americans.

  • Faaluaina "Lua" Pritchard, of Lakewood, is the executive dDirector of the Korean Women's Association. She has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2002.

  • Elliot Lawrence Kim, of Du Pont, and Randolph Bolong, of Yakima, a lawyer, have been appointed to terms ending June 30, 2003.

  • Natacha Sesko, of Bremerton, and Yvonne Kinoshita Ward, of Auburn have been reappointed to additional terms ending June 30, 2004.


Public Works Board

The board administers public-works assistance funds and makes loans to various forms of local government for public-works projects.

  • Darlene Mc Henry, of Bellevue, is the executive director of the Utility Contractors Association of Washington. She has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2003.

  • Peter Capell, of Vancouver, is the Public Works director for Clark County. He has been appointed to a term ending June 30, 2003.

  • Katy Isaksen, of Seattle, William Huibregtse, of Yakima, Rebecca Francik, of Newport, Lynne Danielson, of Tahuya, and Robert Bandarra, of Woodenville, have all been reappointed to additional terms ending June 30, 2005.
