Locke announces appointments to boards and commissions

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments for several
boards and commissions.


State Board for Community and Technical Colleges

The board is the governing board for the state's community
and technical college system.


  • Paul Hutton, of Issaquah, and Jose Ruiz, of Anacortes, have
    been reappointed to terms ending April 3, 2005.


Affordable Housing Advisory Board

The board serves as principal advisory body to the
Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development on housing and
housing-related issues.

  • County Commissioner Darcie Nielsen, of Friday Harbor, has
    been appointed to a term ending Jan. 26, 2002.


Board of Accountancy

The board regulates public accounting through examinations,
licensing, complaint investigation and continuing professional education.

  • Robin Clark, of Bremerton, is a certified public accountant
    working in defense spending, and Barbara Adams, of Spokane, is a certified
    public accountant with the Center for Justice. Both have been appointed to
    terms ending June 9, 2004.


Board of Boiler Rules

The board formulates rules and regulations for the safe and
proper construction, installation, use and repair of boilers and pressure
valves.

  • Steve Bacon, of Ferndale, has been reappointed to a term
    ending Aug. 22, 2005.


Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers

The board examines and licenses members of the profession
and recommends rules and regulations for administering and enforcing the
regulatory law.

  • Charles Wetmore, of Veradale, is the general manager of the
    Neptune Society in Seattle and Spokane. He has been appointed to fill a
    term ending July 1, 2005.


Boundary Review Board - Kittitas County

Boundary Review Boards are mandated by state legislation in
some counties, voluntarily created in others, and have jurisdiction over
municipal annexations, incorporations, disincorporations and creation or
annexation of certain special districts.

  • Lisa Ely, of Cle Elum, is an associate professor in
    geological sciences at Central Washington University. She has been
    appointed to a term ending Jan. 31, 2005.


Developmental Disabilities Council

The council advises the governor on issues and trends in
providing services to developmentally disabled individuals.

  • Ronnie Hacken, of Olympia, Melinda Sperline, of Grayland,
    and Diana Zottman, of Seattle, have been reappointed to terms ending June
    30, 2004.


Fire Protection Policy Board

The board sets policy on fire protection matters.

  • Joseph Coultman, of Seattle, is a firefighter with the
    Seattle Fire Department. He has been appointed to fill a term ending April
    15, 2004.


  • Sharon Colby, of Spokane, and T.J. Nedrow, of Lacey, have
    been reappointed to terms expiring April 15, 2004.


Governor's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS

The council advises the governor on HIV/AIDS-related
programs and policy.

  • Steven Wakefield, of Seattle, is director of community
    education for the clinical research division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer
    Research Center and James Musselwhite, of Olympia, is executive director of
    United Communities AIDS Network in Olympia. Both have been appointed to
    terms ending June 30, 2002.


  • Darlene McLeod, of Bellingham, retired as a human resources
    analyst with the city of Bellingham. Her term expires June 30, 2003.


  • Adimika Meadows, of Seattle, works as coordinator of
    presentations at the Seattle Treatment Education Project. She has been
    appointed to a term ending June 30, 2004.


Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Board

The board is a nonprofit organization with the purpose of
preventing industrial injuries and occupational diseases among employees in
the state.

  • Larry Brown, of Auburn, is a union representative for the
    International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Brooke
    Thomsen
    , of Wenatchee, is the safety/occupational health supervisor for
    Stemilt Growers, Inc., and Donald Green, of Lakewood, is a management
    analyst with the Department of Labor and Industries. All have been
    appointed to terms ending Dec. 31, 2004.


Health Insurance Pool

The Washington State Health Insurance Pool provides access
to health insurance for people who are unable to obtain coverage in the
private marketplace.

  • Dr. Mark Adams, of Bremerton, works at the thoracic and
    vascular center of Kitsap County, and Dr. Robert Crittenden, of Seattle, is
    a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of
    Washington. Both terms expire May 31, 2004.


Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities and their Families

The council advises and assists the Department of Social and
Health Services to coordinate, develop and implement policies dealing with
early intervention services.

  • Linda Yates, of Puyallup, works for Good Samaritan's
    Children's Therapy Unit and has been appointed to a term ending Jan. 6,
    2004.


Olympic Natural Resource Center Advisory Board

The board advises the deans of the University of Washington
College of Forestry and College of Ocean and Fishery Science, as well as the
director of the Olympic Natural Resources Center, on policies for the
Center.

  • Brando Blore, of Pt. Angeles, is first officer of the
    Olympic Labor Council AFL-CIO. His term expires at the pleasure of the
    governor.


Public Stadium Authority

The authority is responsible for building and operating a
professional football stadium and exhibition center.


  • Lorraine Hine, of Lacey, Frederick Mendoza, of Normandy Park, Lucy DeYoung, of Woodinville, and Sue Frost, of Kennewick, have been reappointed to terms expiring July 15, 2005.


Real Estate Commission

The commission examines and licenses real estate brokers and
salespeople.


  • James Carollo, of Spokane, has been reappointed to a term
    ending May 23, 2007.
