Gov. Locke and Maryland's governor participate in friendly baseball playoffs rivalry

OLYMPIA - In the spirit of the baseball playoffs, Gov. Gary Locke and Gov. Parris Glendening of Maryland, are involved in a friendly rivalry over the American League Divisional Series between the Seattle Mariners and the Baltimore Orioles.

"We look forward to a great playoff series between the Mariners and Orioles," said Locke. "I hope we can count on the state of Maryland's support when the Mariners play in the World Series."

Governor Glendening was not ready to consider the prospect. "For months now, I have been spreading the message far and wide about how wonderful Maryland seafood is to eat and enjoy," said Glendening. "With the playoff series starting this evening, I thought it would be appropriate to spread that message to the great state of Washington, as well. I am confident that our Orioles will prevail over the Mariners and will move on to capture the American League pennant and a spot in the World Series."

If the Mariners are victorious, Governor Glendening has offered a bushel of Maryland blue crabs, several Maryland rockfish and a gallon of Maryland crab soup topped with Old Bay seasoning. If the Orioles defeat the Mariners, Governor Locke has offered a bushel of Washington apples, several Washington salmon steaks and a bag of Starbucks coffee.
