Locke appoints homelessness council and other state posts

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced his selections to the Washington State Advisory Council on Homelessness, the Lewis and Clark Trail Committee and several state boards.


Locke filled three posts on the homelessness council. He named Dan Jacobs, of Sequim, who has more than 25 years of experience in human services and recently served as an executive director for a non-profit hospice in California.


Locke also appointed John Harmon, an executive director for the Bellingham-Whatcom Housing Authorities, and John Epler, a Seattle human services consultant. All terms expire January 4, 2001.


Frederick Rigwood, an interviewer with the Department of Employment Securities in Pasco, and Rex Ziak, an award winning photographer from Naselle in Pacific County, were appointed to the Lewis and Clark Trail Committee. The committee promotes public awareness of the route traveled by Lewis and Clark. Expiration dates for both terms still are to be determined.


Geraldine Ann Coleman, a Walla Walla business owner, was appointed to the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board. The board oversees the state's training system. Coleman's term expires June 30, 1998.


J. LaVere Shaffer, of Bellingham, was appointed to the Board of Volunteer Firefighters. Shaffer has 24 years of service as a volunteer firefighter. His term expires June 1, 2003.


Locke also appointed Bremerton bank executive, Diane Sugzda, to the Kitsap County Boundary Review Board. Her term expires January 31, 2001.


All appointments are voluntary positions.
