Gov. Locke announces appointments to state offices, council

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments to the state Liquor Control Board, Office of Administrative Hearings and the Public Disclosure Commission.


He also announced reappointments to the Interagency Coordinating Council For Infants and Toddlers With Disabilities and Their Families.


Charles Brydon has been appointed to the Liquor Control Board. Brydon currently is president of Brydon Insurance Services, Inc., of Seattle, a firm he founded in 1982.


Jesse Farias, of Wapato in Yakima County, also has been appointed to the Liquor Control Board. Farias currently is regional director for the state Department of Employment Security in Eastern Washington.


Brydon begins work March 10. His term on the board expires in 2003.


Farias begins work April 1. His term expires in 2001.


The annual salary for each appointment is $66,803.


Art Wang, of Tacoma, has been appointed to the Office of Administrative Hearings. Wang is a former state legislator. He began work Feb. 18.


The Office of Administrative Hearings provides mediation services to state agencies during disputes about decisions that affect the public.


Wang's term expires in 2001. His salary is $86,974.


Ronda Cahill, of Spokane, has been appointed to the Public Disclosure Commission. Cahill worked as a political consultant and a volunteer on numerous campaigns including Gov. Locke and Gov. Bob Miller of Nevada.


The Public Disclosure Commission keeps track of all public financial records. Cahill is serving a volunteer term which expires in 2000.


Locke also reappointed eight members to volunteer terms on the state Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities and Their Families. They are Glen Turner, Everett; Janie Bedwell, Everett; Regina Wheeler, Brownstown; Melvin Louk, Oakesdale; Gayle Womack, Richland; Katherine Tekolste, Mercer Island; Denise Rothleutner, Tacoma; and Kathy Christiansen, Spokane. All terms expire in January 2000, except for Louk, whose term expires in January 1999.


This council advises the state Department of Social and Health Services on policies dealing with early intervention services for children with disabilities.
