Locke names Keith Love as communications director

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today named Keith Love, former editor and publisher of the Daily Record in Ellensburg, Wash., as communications director in the governor's office.

Love succeeds Marylou Flynn, who took a job out of state.

"I look forward to having Keith join our team," Locke said. "He brings a unique blend of solid news experience, Eastern Washington perspectives and experience as a manager in the business sector. Keith will make an exciting addition to the senior staff."

Love was editor and publisher of the Daily Record from 1992 until July 1 of this year, when he joined the corporate staff of Pioneer Newspapers, Inc., the Seattle-based company that owns the Daily Record.

"I will miss newspapers, and I will especially miss the Daily Record and Pioneer," Love said. "But this new position gives me a chance to serve in the public arena for a governor whose values I admire."

From 1983 to 1990, Love was a political correspondent for the Los Angeles Times. From 1979 to 1983, he was an editor with the New York Times in Manhattan. He also has served on the corporate staff of McClatchy Newspapers of Sacramento, Calif.

As editor of the Daily Record, Love was responsible for writing most of the paper's editorials and many front-page articles.

Love, 51, is a native of South Carolina and a graduate of New York University.

Love, whose annual salary will be $81,500, will assume his new duties July 20.
