Locke appoints directors for SIRTI

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments to the board of directors of the Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute (SIRTI).

This year the Legislature established the multi-institutional education and research center in Spokane.

The nine public members Locke appointed are:

Susan A. Ashe, public affairs manager for Kaiser Aluminum's Northwest Operations in Spokane. She also serves on the boards of the Association of Washington Business, United Way of Spokane County and Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce. Her term expires in June 2000.

Bernard Daines, chief executive officer of Packet Engines in Spokane. He has more than 16 years of experience working in the high speed networking industry and is a recognized expert in Ethernet technology. Daines' term expires in June 2000.

Richard G. Hadley, president and CEO of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce. Hadley, who lives in Spokane, also serves on the boards of Leadership Spokane, Association of Washington Business, Washington Chamber of Commerce Executives and the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. His terms expires in June 1999.

Nancy L. Isserlis, a Spokane lawyer in private practice. Isserlis also serves on the Agriculture/Legal Aid Relations Task Force and on the steering committee for the Equal Justice Coalition. Her term expires in June 2001.

Michael D. Nowling, chief executive officer, Heart Institute of Spokane. Nowling also serves on the board of Spokane Business Assisting Scholastic Excellence. His term expires in June 1999.

Dr. Gerald L. Saling, former state legislator and past president of Spokane Falls Community College. Saling's term expires in June 2000.

Thomas C. Simpson, managing director, Spokane Capital Management. Simpson also serves on the boards of directors for Packet Engines and Cataldo Catholic School. His term expires in June 2001.

Heidi B. Stanley, senior vice-president of Spokane's Sterling Savings Association. Stanley is secretary of the Business Improvement District Rate Payers Board and also serves on the board of the Washington Public Affairs Network. Her term expires in June 2001.

Kathleen P. Wilcox, president of Washington Software Alliance, a Bellevue trade organization representing information technology industries. Wilcox also serves on the boards of directors for the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce and Charter Bank. Her term expires in June 1999.

In addition to the public members, the board includes the executive director of the Washington Technology Institute; the provosts of Washington State University (WSU), Eastern Washington University (EWU), Central Washington University (CWU) and the University of Washington (UW); an academic representative of the Spokane community colleges; a representative from Gonzaga University; and one from Whitworth College.

SIRTI works in partnership with private industry, higher education, state and federal agencies, and economic development organizations. It works to build sustainable economic growth through technology.
