Locke appoints Brosey to Lewis County Superior Court

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Lewis County Superior
Court Commissioner Dick Brosey to a new judicial post on the Lewis County Superior Court.

Locke said Brosey will bring solid legal skills and experience to the bench. "Dick has the demeanor, temperament and wisdom to bring efficient, understandable justice to the people," Locke said. "We consulted extensively with the legal and judicial communities of Lewis County, and the overwhelming consensus was that Dick is the best person for the job."

Brosey, 49, was born in Chehalis and raised in Winlock. He graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in economics and received his law degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane in 1974. In 1975, he started his private practice in Chehalis. In addition, he served as a Toledo city attorney from 1975 to 1994, and as a Chehalis municipal judge from 1992 through 1997. Brosey closed his private practice in 1994 when he became a full-time Lewis County Superior Court Commissioner.

Brosey was elected president of the Lewis County Bar Association in 1981. He also served as director of the Boistfort Valley Water Corporation for 10 years. The corporation serves approximately 720 local households and farms.

Brosey's starting date is July 1, 1998, at an annual salary of $100,995. He will face election this fall.
