Gov. Locke's statement on the hiring of replacement workers at the Seattle Times

"Union workers have a right to strike and I've always opposed the hiring of people to replace employees conducting legal strikes.

"In addition, the Seattle Times' decision to hire replacement workers when a federal mediator has come from Washington D.C. to try to resolve this dispute can only inflame the situation and prolong the strike.

"I urge all parties to return to the bargaining table and work with the negotiator to reach a fair settlement."
