Governor announces winners of the Distinguished Management Leadership Award

OLYMPIA – Gov. Gary Locke today honored some of the top managers in state government by awarding them a 1999 Governor's Distinguished Management Leadership Award. The highly prized award recognizes state government managers who demonstrate outstanding leadership in providing quality service to the public.

"The managers recognized today will make state government the best it can be in providing vital services to Washington citizens," Locke said. "I am extremely proud of the work they do and the example they set for all state government workers.

"They are leaders who instill the highest principles for quality in their work and find ways to do more with less, improve services, and build on the growing partnerships with businesses and other organizations. They challenge traditional thinking to make state service the standard of excellence citizens rightfully expect," Locke said.

Twenty-five managers from 15 state agencies are being honored this year with awards in one of two categories. Fifteen were selected as distinguished managers for outstanding performance and results during the past year. Ten were selected in the sustaining leader category, recognizing long-standing leadership in state government.
