Locke announces appointees to boards and commissions

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke today made selections for a college board of trustees, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, the Independent Science Panel, and other boards and commissions.

College Board of Trustees

The board of trustees is the governing body of the college.

Deborah J. Barnett, of Olympia, was appointed to The Evergreen State College, Board of Trustees. Barnett is a retired manager from Microsoft. Her term expires Sept. 30, 2000.
State Board for Community and Technical Colleges

The board reviews the community and technical colleges system's budget, disburses funds to community and technical colleges districts, and establishes standards for staffing, financial procedures, curriculum, degree requirements, and admission policies.

Tom Koenninger, of Vancouver, is vice president and editor of The Columbian and is the chairman of the Vancouver School District's Management Advisory Task Force.

Bob Bavasi, of Everett, is owner and president of the Everett AquaSox Baseball Club and director of the Northwest League of Professional Baseball.

Both terms expire April 3, 2003.

Independent Science Panel

The panel is a non policy-making body working to ensure sound science is used in Washington's salmon recovery efforts.

Dr. Kenneth P. Currens, of Olympia, is a fishery geneticist for the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission.

Dr. Hiram Li, of Corvallis, Oregon, is assistant leader and professor of the Oregon Cooperative Fishery Unit at Oregon State University.

Dr. John D. McIntyre, of Anacortes, is co-editor for the North American Journal of Fisheries Management.

Dr. David R. Montgomery, of Seattle, is an associate professor of geological sciences at the University of Washington.

Dr. Dudley W. Reiser, of Redmond, is president and senior fisheries scientist of a resource consulting company.
All terms expire April 30, 2003.

Pesticide Incident Reporting and Tracking Review Panel

The panel monitors and investigates cases of suspected pesticide poisoning reported by physicians and public health authorities.

Lucio G. Costa, of Seattle, is a director of the toxicology program at the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine.

Alice Larson, Ph.D., of Vashon, is a private consultant and coordinator of a work group on pesticide health and safety.
Both terms expire Jan. 5, 2000.

Boundary Review Boards

The boards have jurisdiction over municipal annexations, incorporations of cities under 7,500 estimated population, disincorporations and creation or annexation of certain special districts.

Julie Davidson, of Woodinville, was appointed to the King County Boundary Review Board. Davidson is a private health care consultant. Her term expires Jan. 31, 2001.

State Investment Board

The board invests and reinvests the monies of the state's trust and retirement funds.

Beverly A. Hermanson, of Olympia, is the director of legislative and political action for the Washington Federation of State Employees. Her term expires Dec. 31, 1999.

Veterinary Board of Governors

The board examines candidates for licensing and registration and investigates and holds hearings on violations of the regulatory law.

Michael Wedam, of Sunnyside, is a self-employed veterinarian. His term expires Dec. 24, 2003.

Real Estate Commission

The commission examines and licenses real estate brokers and salespersons.

James Carollo, of Spokane, is a licensed real estate associate broker. His term expires Aug. 14, 2001.

Commute Trip Reduction Task Force

The task force implements Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies for reducing the number of vehicles on roads and highways, particularly single-occupant vehicles.

Ron S. Bergman, of Vancouver, is director of public works for Clark County. His term is determined by the governor.
