Locke makes selections for state boards and commissions

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments for several boards and commissions.

Office of Administrative Hearings

The Office is an independent agency responsible for impartial hearings under the state administrative procedure act, and operates under the direction of the Chief Law Judge.

Art Wang, of Tacoma is a former state legislator, and is being appointed Chief Law Judge at the annual salary of $92,267. His term expires Nov. 22, 2005.

Clemency and Pardons Board

The board receives petitions from individuals, organizations and the Department of Corrections for review and commutation of sentences and pardoning of offenders.

Appointed for an additional term are S. Nia Renei Cottrell, of Seattle, and Wendell DeBoer, of Bellevue. Both terms expire Sept. 25, 2004.

Eastern State Hospital Advisory Board

The board monitors the operations and activities of the hospital, and makes recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature for quality improvement.

Appointed for an additional term are Gregory Ochoa, of Yakima, Mark Kreilkamp, of Spokane, and Roy Huckaby, of Rosalia. All terms expire Dec. 5, 2004.

Public Employment Relations Commission

The commission provides uniform and impartial settlement of public employee-employer disputes.

Appointed to an additional term is Marilyn Glenn Sayan, of Shelton. Her term expires Sept. 8, 2005.

Public Employees Benefits Board

The board designs and approves insurance benefit plans for state employees and retirees, the higher education system, political subdivisions and all employees of school districts.

Appointed to additional terms are Greg Devereux, of Olympia, Stephen M. Brown, of Yelm, and Richard Rubin, of Mercer Island. All terms expire Oct. 1, 2002.
