State Patrol Chief Sandberg elected chair of national women's executives organization

OLYMPIA - Washington State Patrol Chief Annette M. Sandberg has been elected chair of the 217-member Women Executives in State Government.

"I am proud they have selected Chief Sandberg to chair such an important organization," said Gov. Gary Locke. "I am confident they will appreciate her outstanding leadership and contribution from Washington State."

Sandberg's election was held at the organization's annual meeting hosted by Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. Women Executives in State Government, founded in 1983, is a national, non-profit organization committed to excellence in state government - through innovation, creative public-private partnerships and the development of future leaders. Sandberg served as the group's vice-chair during the 2000 term.

WESG was founded by a group of women from around the country to exchange practical information about successful strategies in state government. Its members focus on making a difference in public service through high-quality management and leadership training, peer-to-peer exchange and networking opportunities, partnerships with public and private sector leaders, and issues education.

Sandberg was appointed to lead the Washington State Patrol in April 1995 by former Gov. Mike Lowry. She was re-appointed by Locke in 1997. She serves on the boards of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, Thurston County United Way and several other public and private organizations.
