David Della to leave Asian-Pacific American Affairs Commission

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke will conduct a search to find a replacement for David Della, the executive director of the Washington State Commission on Asian-Pacific American Affairs. Della will leave in May to work for the United Way of King County as its community affairs manager in Seattle.

The Commission advises the governor and state agencies on policies, plans and programs relating to the special needs of Asian-Pacific Americans (APAs). The Commission also works to improve diversity within state government, and to improve the well-being of APAs by improving access to government, business and education.

Della will depart after approximately six years as executive director. He said he plans to continue his commitment to public service and community organizing. His background includes several years of work in community, labor, and government positions in the state of Washington.

"David has done an excellent job as executive director of the Commission on Asian-Pacific American Affairs," Locke said. "He and his staff deserve a lot of credit for their hard work and dedication to building a strong community-government partnership."

The state legislature established the Washington Commission on Asian-Pacific American Affairs in 1974. Since then, the Commission has worked on mutual understanding of public policies and APA community issues between state government and Asian-Pacific Americans in the state of Washington.

The Governor's Office will conduct a search for a new executive director. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume, and a list of five or more personal/professional references by May 10, 1999 to: Office of the Governor, PO Box 40002, Olympia, WA 98504-0002 (attn: Kelly Wicker).
