Locke's budget office honored for excellent financial reporting

OLYMPIA - For the 13th year, the governor's budget office has been honored by a national association of finance experts for its excellent annual report of state finances.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the Washington State Office of Financial Management a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the association's highest honor.

"I'm pleased at the continued recognition from a respected organization, and it is one more indication that Washington State's financial management is respected across the nation," Gov. Gary Locke said.

The award, the 13th in as many years, honored OFM's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, which details Washington revenue and spending activity, among other things. It is a primary source of information for banks, bond houses and other financial interests doing business with the state.

In making the award, the Chicago-based non-profit association of finance officers said, "we hope that your example will encourage other government officials in their efforts to achieve and maintain an appropriate standard of excellence in financial reporting."

Sadie Rodriguez-Hawkins, who is OFM Director Marty Brown's assistant director of the accounting division, received the award on behalf of the state.
