Locke appoints citizens to state boards and commissions

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced his selections for a college board of trustees, the Employee Retirement Benefits Board, the Energy Northwest Executive Board, and the Commission on Pesticide Registration.

College Board of Trustees

The board of trustees is the governing body of the college.

Parijat Nandi, of Thailand, was appointed to the Western Washington University, Board of Trustees. Nandi is currently studying Community Health at Western. His term expires on May 31, 2001.

Employee Retirement Benefits Board

The board pre-selects options for members to choose from for self-directed investment, as well as select optional benefit payment schedules available to members and survivors, and select investment options for the deferred compensation program.

Nancy Batcheller, of Bellingham, is a retired teacher. Her term expires on June 30, 2003.

Claude Burfect, of Seattle, is a Residential Services Coordinator and a member of his local union labor management team. His term expires on June 30, 2003.

Virginia Drummond, of Tacoma, is a Human Resources Reports Specialist with the Tacoma School District. Her term expires on June 30, 2003.

WA Public Power Supply System (Energy Northwest) Executive Board

The board is a joint-operating agency and municipal corporation of the state of Washington. Members are required to have managerial, financial or construction expertise, and represent all of the electrical rate payers in the Pacific Northwest Region.

Margaret Allen, of Olympia, is an attorney and former research analyst. Her term expires on June 30, 2004.

Commission on Pesticide Registration

The commission provides guidance to Washington State University's Food Safety and Environmental Quality Lab in the area of pesticide registration and use.

Dr. Andrew Jensen, of Moses Lake, is Director of Research & Technical Affairs for the Washington State Potato Commission. His term ends on Sept. 14, 2003.
