Locke announces Distinguished Management Leadership Award winners

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today announced the recipients of the 2000 Governor's Distinguished Management Leadership Award. The highly prized award recognizes state government managers who demonstrate outstanding leadership in providing quality service to the public.

"These individuals exemplify the best way for state government to do business with our customers - the citizens of the state of Washington," Locke said. "They are leaders who instill quality principles in their work and find ways to do more with less, improve services and build on the growing partnerships with businesses and other organizations. They challenge traditional thinking to make state service the standard of excellence citizens rightfully expect."

Twenty-six managers from 16 state agencies are being honored this year with awards in one of two categories. Sixteen were selected as Distinguished Managers for outstanding performance and results achieved during the past year. Ten were selected in the Sustaining Leader category, recognizing long-standing leadership in state government.
