Locke honors educators with 'Excellence in Education' awards

OLYMPIA - Washington's outstanding educators will be the special guests of honor when Gov. Gary Locke and Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Terry Bergeson host the Washington Excellence in Education awards tomorrow (May 24).

"Our educators today are making great things happen in their schools," Locke said. "These outstanding professionals are setting the standard for excellence in our classrooms, and we will honor them for their commitment to children and to education."

The event is set for May 24 in a 1:30 p.m. ceremony in the House Chambers in the State Capitol. Presenting the awards with the superintendent will be Senate Education Chair Rosemary McAuliffe, House Education Co-chair Gigi Talcott and state Board of Education President Linda Carpenter.

Among the 72 recipients are superintendents, principals or administrators, teachers and classified staff.
