Locke makes appointments to boards and commissions

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke today announced appointments to the Higher Education Coordinating Board, a college board of trustees, the Dental Quality Assurance Commission and several other boards and commissions.

Higher Education Coordinating Board

The board studies, plans and coordinates higher education among various institutions and agencies within the state.

Pat Stanford, of Seattle, is a former civil service employee of the U.S. Department of Defense. She currently serves on the John Stanford Endowment Fund Committee Alliance for Education board of directors. Her term expires June 30, 2003.

College Board of Trustees

The board of trustees is the governing body of the college.

Carol Landa-McVicker, of Spokane, was appointed to the Community Colleges of Spokane, Board of Trustees. She works for the Spokane County Human Resources Department as a human resource analyst. Her term expires Aug. 30, 2003.

Dental Quality Assurance Commission

The commission processes applications for dental licensure; recommends and adopts rules and regulations for administration of the regulatory law; and investigates, reviews, and conducts hearings on alleged violations of the regulatory law.

Mary Granger, of Spokane, is a paralegal working in litigation support at a law firm.

Lorin D. Peterson, of Cle Elum, is a self-employed dentist.

Appointed to an additional term on the commission is Gary Maxwell, of Spokane, a private practice oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

All terms expire June 30, 2003.

Alternative Public Works Methods Oversight Committee

The committee reviews the utilization of authorized alternative public works contracting procedures and evaluates potential future procedures.

Daniel Absher, of Puyallup, is president and chief executive officer of a third-generation construction firm based in Puyallup.

John Lynch, of Olympia, is the assistant director for engineering and architectural services for the Washington State Department of General Administration.

Scott Sawyer, of Lacey, is works at an engineering firm as a senior project manager designing and managing highway and arterial roadway projects.

All terms expire July 1, 2001

Public Works Board

The board administers public-works assistance funds and makes loans to various forms of local government for public-works projects.

Castulo Arteaga, of Grandview, is the public works director for the City of Grandview. His term expires June 30, 2003.

Rebecca Francik, of Pasco, is a Pasco City Councilmember currently serving as Mayor Pro Tem. Her term expires June 30, 2001.

Combined Fund Drive Committee

The committee evaluates organizations that wish to seek financial support from state employees through the combined fund drive.

Kim Bais, of Spanaway, is an administrative assistant at Pierce College. Her term expires Jan. 1, 2003.
