Sibonga appointment brings Horse Racing Commission to full strength

OLYMPIA - Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Delores Sibonga to the Washington Horse Racing Commission.

Sibonga replaces Guy Roberts, who completed his term.

Locke also announced Barbara Shinpoch has agreed to remain on the commission. Shinpoch earlier this week submitted her resignation to Locke but he declined to accept it.

Sibonga served on the commission from August 1998, through last April.

Sibonga, of Coupeville, served three terms on the Seattle City Council. She also served on the board of the National League of Cities and chaired the Board of Administration for the Seattle City Employees Retirement System.

She received law and bachelor degrees from the University of Washington.

The five-member Horse Racing Commission is scheduled to meet tomorrow at which time it will begin its search for a new executive secretary.
