Gov. Gary Locke Appoints Robert Lewis to Clark County Superior Court

Gov. Gary Locke today appointed Camas attorney Robert Lewis to the Clark County Superior Court.
Lewis’ appointment is to a new superior court position authorized by Clark County and the Legislature. This position was created to help handle rising caseloads.
“I am pleased to add Robert to a branch of government that is so vital to our democratic system,” Locke said. “He has the legal skills, the temperament and the experience to be a top-notch Superior Court judge.”
Lewis has been an attorney in Camas for the past 20 years in a general civil and criminal practice. His focus has been on criminal defense and family law, but he has also represented clients in most types of civil litigation. Lewis contracts with Clark County to represent indigents accused of felonies and his office represents the city of Camas and the Port of Camas-Washougal. He also served for several years as the assistant city attorney and municipal prosecutor in Camas.

Lewis is also a part-time Clark County Superior Court Commissioner, and he acts as pro-tem judge and commissioner for Skamania County Superior Court.

“I thank the governor for giving me this opportunity,” Lewis said. “I hope to live up to his expectations and those of a very strong Clark County bench.”
Lewis received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Washington University, and his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law. He was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1981.
